must have made a clone copy of my card, as I still have the original in my wallet. Only Got a tank of gas and a car wash before visa fraud called me, was used in a state 1000s of miles away from me. Seems like alot of effort to rip off less than $40.

if possible, it's important to know how your data was breached

Ive gotten emails before in the past about websites or companies having data breaches, but nothing lately. How do you go about pinning it down to a certain location?

Possibly the gas station....the pump....should go back there check out the pump and tell them. Happens to gas pumps all the time thieves putting gadgets there to steal information unless you went inside and used your card

it could be. I use this card at a handful of local places, websites like amazon etc. Normally only keep a couple hundred in this account

I don't understand why people use debit cards when you can get 2-3% cash back credit cards

Totally agree but like gambling it takes some discipline to make sure it gets paid off to not get into a lot of debt with the credit card....some don't have it

Same thing just happened to my sister except they bought a $1200 bike at a bike shop in New York 1000 miles away from where she currently lives.

I had someone take out all kinds of lines and phones with Verizon in my name - I told them 100x it is not me - they they would not listen to me - I sent of a copy of my license - in their records they had my license with someone else's pic

I had a bank account out a small bank - I would send them a letter scanned for a bank wire request - someone took one of my previous letters from my email and sent it to the bank requesting a 40K wire to some latin woman in Houston - it was so out left field the bank called and asked if I had sent the request

There are a lot of skimmers out there on gas pumps, and other card readers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_aH50Tn8Fo

You understand if you are “truly” on the 1% that only spends what they need on credit and pay it off every month, good for you.

But I have debits cards that pay more than most cards and use credit for rentals and what not.

There’s a reason they offer that $500 bonus and 2.9% cash back.

think its easy to spend more than you want/afford with a credit card. easier to budget and stick to it with debit card.
even your bank will tell you to never use debit on daily purchases like at the pump or grocery store as you have to type in the code

as long as you are disciplined and pay it off every month, or set up auto pay, you'll likely get some cash back on purchases and save yourself the headache of having your bank account comprimised
